Mike Arthur
Mike worked for 25 years as Manager, Physical Activity for the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness. He worked with colleagues in recreation, public health, education, universities and municipal governments on the planning and implementation of evidence-based policies, strategies, and services to increase population levels of physical activity.
Doug Nutting
Doug worked for Community Living Victoria for 7 years and moved on to the position of Coordinator of Integrated Recreation Services with the Municipalities of Greater Victoria. Utilizing the same vision and skills he had demonstrated earlier in his career, Doug has guided the development of Integrated Recreation Services into the partnership of services known as Recreation Integration Victoria (RIV). RIV is recognized across Canada as a premier inclusive service delivery and funding model.
Rick Turnbull
Rick was elected to the Coordinating Committee in the fall of 2016 and appointed as Treasurer.
Kelsey Fahie
Kelsey Fahie (she/her) is a Member-at-Large on the Board of Directors of the Active Abilities Canada. Kelsey is from Halifax, Nova Scotia, and works for Physical and Health Education Canada as the Lead, Programs and Resources.
James Kwinecki
James is a Program Coordinator for the CNIB Come To Work Youth Pod in British Columbia. A retired national team para rower, James is passionate about physical activity and its benefits for all. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Active Abilities Canada. In addition to his work, James is currently studying at the University of Victoria.
Lorelee Marin
Lorelee Marin served as a City Councillor in Lloydminster AB/SK and was a champion for accessibility in recreation and the broader community.
Karen Natho
From the start of Karen’s career when she was a young academic and a recipient of the Ted Wall Award with Active Abilities Canada, she has been passionate about opportunities for persons with disabilities, involved in multiple initiatives around the country. Karen worked for 14 years with the Easter Seals Society in the camping sector, with the Niagara Children’s Centre as a Recreation Therapist and a registered Kinesiologist in Active Rehab Clinical settings.
Alexandra Gilbert
Shaan Lail
Shaan is a third- year law student at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from UBC’s Sauder School of Business. His academic background provides him with strong financial literacy, budgeting knowledge, and communication skills. Shaan is the President of the UBC Law Students’ Society, acting as the primary representative for students.
Marina Pinto Miller
Marina, born with cerebral palsy, brings lived experience as well as numerous skills and talents that would serve the ALACD in its work with organizations and communities. Marina, in her quest to remain physically active, has first-hand experience with the challenges to be active.

Christa Costas-Bradstreet
Christa is extremely excited to have re-joined the Active Abilities Canada as the Executive Director. Christa’s association with the organization goes back more than thirty years, from working in partnership with Active Abilities Canada and its team of professionals, to serving on the Coordinating Committee for six years, followed by working as the Director of Partnerships from 2018 to 2022.
Moji Akande
Moji is thrilled to join the Active Abilities Canada as a Communication Manager and bring her extensive background in strategic communication and policy development to the organization. Moji’s connection with inclusive recreation and sports advocacy is reflected in her work, and her time spent volunteering and coordinating projects across diverse communities.
Taryn Barry
Taryn has worked for different sport organizations in Canada and internationally, and currently is the project manager of the Municipal Guide for Disability Inclusion in Recreation and Physical Activity.
Mariane Parent
Mariane Parent est la directrice générale du Réseau Accès Participation, un organisme partenaire d’Accessibilité active Canada. Son rôle est de nous aider à déployer et à faire rayonner notre mission, nos projets et programmes dans la francophonie canadienne. Elle apporte avec elle un bagage de 20 ans d’expérience en gestion de programmes éducatifs ainsi qu’en enseignement en sports et loisirs.
Brady Kitchen
Brady Kitchen has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of New Brunswick, where he majored in Marketing and minored in Psychology. Throughout his degree, Brady completed a range of marketing courses, including applied projects that involved working directly with local businesses.
