Shaan is a third- year law student at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from UBC’s Sauder School of Business. His academic background provides him with strong financial literacy, budgeting knowledge, and communication skills. Shaan is the President of the UBC Law Students’ Society, acting as the primary representative for students. As head of the executive, he and his team oversees a large annual budget, supports risk-managed event planning, and leads external communications for a diverse student body. His legal education and training further informs his ability to assess governance risks and understand regulatory frameworks skills relevant to both board service and public policy development. As someone born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a chronic disability, Shaan requires adaptations to participate in physical activity, bringing a perspective of someone with lived experience. Shaan was the co-chair of the Richmond Accessibility Advisory Committee (RAAC), worked with the Rick Hansen Foundation (summer 2021), worked with the Centre for Accessibility to ensure the current student spaces are wheelchair accessible, and is a member of the EDI committee at the UBC Allard School of Law.
